System boots to black screen with mouse cursor. Please Help.

system has been in use for a few months by an elderly relative.
was working fine. was shut down. upon restart black screen
and nomodeset broke amd drivers
This sounds exactly like me. was there a amd graphics driver update recently?
how do i check that?
ok. I’ve read that some screen drivers have been “moved” to the kernel, but sometimes they have a problem there.
I also got this issue(black screen with the mouse pointer), first I tried the Ctrl-Alt F2, a login screen appears and i went to a “command line session”, I tried startx and worked fine(the GUI worked), after that, I rebooted and went to the boot menu and added nomodeset in the “linux” line of the grub as i had read, after a success in the boot then i added the nomodeset permanently (with grub-customizer) and now all is ok again!
