Upgrade to 5.13.0-21 ended with error - exit status 1

I made clean installation of lubuntu 21.10 a few days ago. Today’s update ended up with the message:

Hardware: ThinkPad SL500.
Starting from system

All attempts to fix broken packages were unsuccessful.
I have faced similar issue on the same hw with lubuntu 20.04 with no successful resolution.

Thank you for the msg. I hoped that the issue is more common and someone has experienced the same.
There is not much to add. The message is from the GUI.

I have also tried

sudo apt update --fix-missing
sudo apt install -f
sudo dpkg --configure -a
with no successs.

This is a result another attempt to correct the situation. It didn’t help, but it gives a bit more information

I returned to system before upgrade using Timeshift. But it didn’t help to repeat the upgrade correctly.

Your /boot directory is on a FAT32 partition, which does not support symlinks.

How did you install the system? Why is /boot located on a FAT32 partition?

Thanks for the hint.
I have actually used my experience from previous installations, but non of them was lubuntu.
I 'll reinstall.

If you install the system in UEFI mode, then the ESP (EFI System Partition) should be mounted to /boot/efi and /boot resides on the / partition.
