Upgrade Fonts Version

Hi,
Can you upgrade fonts shipped with Lubuntu ?

For exemple : Liberation

  • Version shipped with Lubuntu 18.04.3 : 1.07.4 (2011)
  • Last version available on github : 2.00.5 (2019)

This would be nice to display all unicode chars used in well typed french like: “1ᵉʳ” (unicode version of “1er” in HTML)

Lubuntu ships with the standard package found in repositories (https://packages.ubuntu.com/search?suite=all&searchon=names&keywords=liberation , https://packages.ubuntu.com/focal/fonts-liberation), if you believe it should be updated you could file a (wishlist) bug on the package via launchpad.

This would I suspect be the appropriate method to get it done (or maybe upstream in debian), as it’s not a Lubuntu specific nor Lubuntu maintained package.

On your link the new version is “fonts-liberation2”.
I tried to install it and it fix at least theses two missing chars.

FYI: My link didn’t really have a purpose, other than when you mentioned Liberation font, I did the scan for packages using that as a name. Ubuntu and flavors are built on packages, not files, thus the package name is required to file a bug report.

My own system had fonts-liberation & fonts-liberation2 installed, but I felt the packages.ubuntu.com was better for online readers pasting command detail from my system.

Sorry this may not have good a complete answer.

Lubuntu 18.04 is now end-of-life
