Next Ubuntu 24.04.2 will be released in august 2024 ? If yes next Lubuntu too?

Hello.
I see will be released an next updated Noble 24.04.
That next release will be in august 2024 ?
If yes Lubuntu Noble ISO next version update will be released in same date too ?

Thanks for reading my topic.

There is no firm published date for Ubuntu 24.04.2; but I can tell you its not August 2024 (early next year…)

The official release schedule can be read anytime here - Noble Numbat Release Schedule - Release - Ubuntu Community Hub

where you’ll see the next scheduled release is Ubuntu 24.04.1 LTS on 15 August 2024; so its probably this date you’re thinking of.

 linux-generic | 6.10.0-15.15 | oracular-proposed | amd64, arm64, armhf, ppc64el, s390x

Ubuntu 24.04.2 LTS uses the kernel stack from Ubuntu 24.10 (ie. 6.10); which is still in proposed for oracular, with Ubuntu oracular still in alpha, so work on moving that kernel back to 24.04.2 won’t occur until after release of Ubuntu 24.10 in October 2024.

When a release occurs; it is managed by the Ubuntu Release Team and they also officially release each of the flavors at the same time. We as flavors are asked if we’re ready, and we can indicate as such too, ie.

https://iso.qa.ubuntu.com/qatracker/milestones/453/builds

which can be monitored as release is approaching, as the releases go bold and include the text “(ready)” when a team marks itself as ready. There is a lot of communications (IRC etc) that occur during this time as the Ubuntu Release Team ready and action an actual release. Thus yes when Ubuntu 24.04.1 (and 24.04.2) do release, it’ll include Lubuntu at the same time.

There can be some variation in when notices go out from flavors etc, myself I don’t usually post here on Lubuntu’s discourse until after I’ve completed the official Ubuntu News notices, which are usually commonly delayed as procedures required (validation etc), but given we’re volunteers, if people are busy when a release is likely to officially occur; some notices do go out a little early.

“where you’ll see the next scheduled release is Ubuntu 24.04.1 LTS on 15 August 2024; so its probably this date you’re thinking of.”
Exactly.

Thus will happen an next Lubuntu release for Noble in 08-15-2024 too ?
If yes here not will to do an OS update. Today the depedencies updates only for the OS Ubuntu is more than 800 MB.
Is better install the new Lubuntu 24.04.1 =)

The primary importance of the point release is new media; quoting from a Ubuntu 22.04.4 LTS release announcement

As usual, this point release includes many updates and updated installation media has been provided so that fewer updates will need to be downloaded after installation.

Whilst I’ve not made the Ubuntu 24.04.1 release announcement yet (my wording here is because if you examine the poster of that notice I link; it’s usually by me), I’d expect the wording to be identical. Most of what is said comes in announcements is just copy/pasted from official text, ie. at the bottom of the 24.04.4 link I said

You’ll note there the Ubuntu Release Team is mentioned; as they’re really the ones who control Ubuntu releases.

As for Ubuntu 24.04.1, I’d expect users how are running Ubuntu 24.04 in the week (late Friday, at latest Saturday or early weekend before release depending on your geolocation) before official .1 release to notice their systems report themselves as running 24.04.1 even though the ISO hasn’t been released. That is normal behavior, as the official release relates to the ISO release; which is always a Thursday, with installed systems fully upgrading to it late in the week/early-weekend before actual ISO release.

I personally don’t see any benefit waiting… Normal upgrades are sufficient.

However… there are slight differences with .2 & later ISOs (in contrast to installs made with initial or .1 media), as Lubuntu 24.04.2 & later media will install with the HWE kernel stack, where installs made with either Lubuntu 24.04 or Lubuntu 24.04.1 media installed using the GA kernel stack. This difference is really just a package difference, but it does result in differences in the kernel stack being used between installs of initial & .1 LTS media, and .2 & later LTS media. This can make a difference for some hardware, though if you have an installed system; a couple of commands (as per docs) can achive that change too (in fact you can have multiple kernel stacks installed in most cases; though some nvidia closed-source modules can prevent it if you’re using them; a default Lubuntu install won’t have this issue though)

FYI: Where I refer to Ubuntu, this applies to Lubuntu systems too, as I consider what I’m using now as being Ubuntu oracular (what will be 24.10), even though my logged in session is Lubuntu, and thus my desktop is LXQt; ie. I consider Lubuntu a Ubuntu system
