Have you tried different ports or different mice?

Yes , when my touch pad was not working I used same mouse on two different post . Yesterday I installed some apps , and suddenly noticed my touch pad not working , i restarted , updated . could you please share some terminal command that may help you to know about my PC and issues , thanks for your response/reply . This is happening to me two times ealier , i had to reinstall from bootable usb . regards

So the mouse always works and the touchpad only does sometimes?

It may help if you’re specific with details.

What Lubuntu did you actually install? for 22.04 we’ve released 5 ISOs thus far, ie.

  • 22.04 & 22.04.1
  • 22.04.2 … thru 22.04.4

The install media you install with dictates the kernel stack installed & used by default; the first I listed use the GA kernel stack, the later ISOs I listed default to HWE which changes during the life of the product.

If using the GA kernel stack your install media & system will remain on 5.15 kernel for the life of the product.

Where as 22.04.2 used 5.19, 22.04.3 used 6.2, 22.04.4 used 6.5 which changes as you apply upgrades to advance to later point levels. Thus kernel used at install, may change.

I’ve assumed your install is very new, that you have no issues pre-install, only after upgrades are applied and then post-reboot (and you’re using a newer kernel). This issue as I describe will impact older types of devices (which often perform best using the older GA kernel stack option). Whilst your device isn’t what I’d call old (2015), the hardware within it is what matters, and some components can be older design in business laptops.

Do you know what install media was? (really the ISO used; as there were 5x 22.04 ISOs released).

Alternatively you could use uname -r to look at what your kernel is on your installed system, and contrast with what is on your media; if the issue relates the kernel advancing they’ll be different.

You could try booting and selecting older kernels at boot, ie. selecting at grub in the advanced options menu… ie. if you select the Advanced options at the first Grub menu, an upgraded system will show a list of installed kernels, does it work if you boot other (older) options? but only occurs on newer kernels?

If the problem is inconsistent, I’d suggest booting a very different OS in live and seeing if the problem occurs there. I’d be trying to rule out hardware issues firstly, then try and work out where it relates. The issue to me is kernel or kernel module (aka driver) related I suspect, which is why I’m suggesting exploring kernel stack options which Ubuntu LTS releases provide for.

I don’t know your issue, these are my thoughts only. My 2c.

Yes it is like that !

e always works and the touchpad only does sometimes?
[/quote] xserver-xorg-input-synaptics
can it be solution

Don’t bother with the synaptics driver. They generally aren’t going to do anything special for you. Additionally, they have largely been deprecated by libinput, which is also extensible to Wayland.

I would suggest running xinput list while the touchpad is working. Pay close attention to what’s listed under the “Virtual core pointer” section. You’ll probably have more than one thing listed.

Then, when it’s not working, run it again. Has something changed? If so, what, specifically?

I assume when you did this, the touchpad was not working. There’s certainly no record of it there.

Yes you are 100% true !

Now we just need xinput list when it is working. It should have a different output.

I install synaptics and it works , one may see toiuchpad detected and now working

Yes, but if it was intermittently working before, it likely will again.

Also, as I said, Synaptics is largely deprecated and will not work in the future version of Lubuntu that uses Wayland.

That said, I’d urge you to uninstall Synaptics and let’s get back to troubleshooting this and figuring out the right solution, no?
