What is the most compatible non-snap email client for receiving emails from a system monitoring tool?
I’m aiming to use Monitorix (system monitoring tool).
If you mean that you’re looking for a client that doesn’t require snap. The answer to this is all of them. snap is just a convenience, not a requirement. i.e. I have thunderbird installed but not as snap, flatpak or apt. I installed the desktop version direct from thunderbird.net.
I guess, the snap installs take into account how the distro works and/or the environment (e.g. security/privacy software), but, most of the email clients are decent in this regard and then it becomes a matter of taste (and/or there’s a lot of info about these sorts of issues that you can enjoy and ponder)…
Anyway, one of the reasons I’ve gone with the direct install is because I prefer the profiles and whatnot to be stored (by default) in the home filesystem, not all over the place e.g. snap… and I also don’t like wrestling with sandboxes… (e.g. flatpak).
I also tend to want a reasonably up to date version (i.e. close to the upstream version) of the app.
