Do Snaps update automatically?

I am wondering whether Snaps do update automatically or do I have to hit sudo snap refresh every time to get an update? Because I just typed sudo snap refresh in my terminal and Firefox got updated from version 125 to version 126. This does mean that Snaps have to always be manually updated?

Snap packages will auto-update, however only when being unused.

If you’re using a snap package and an update is available, you can get told (nagged?) that the package will be auto-closed in 14 days (this will count down) so the update can occur.

Incidentally the “OTA updates” are one of the proposed benefits of Snaps. On the other hand, you can set up Debian packages to auto update, too, though it’s not the default.
