Update Notfier Says Upgrade - Already?

Hi guys, I’m hoping you can help me sort something out. And let me start by apologizing for how long this.

Last night I did a fresh install of Lubuntu 20.04 because I thought I’d stuffed up the first one. After the install finished I removed the usb stick and clicked “Enter” and logged into my first session, tweaked a few of the appearance settings, then opened a terminal and ran sudo apt-get update, just in case there were any updates released since 20.04 came out. The I opened Muon Package Manager and installed:

hunspell
hunspell-en-GB
hyphen-en-GB
kxstitch
pinta
kdiamond
kmahjong
kmines
FeatherNotes

And finally, because it was not listed in Muon, I used Discover Software Center to install kpatience. The I shutdown the computer.

When I logged back in, an hour later -ish, the Update Notifier appeared telling me that an upgrade was available. Now, this happened last week, making me think I had stuffed up. Then I attributed it to the installation, through Discover, of knotes. Except I didn’t just install that because the one I clicked on was part of a suite of small programs, instead of a stand-alone program, and they all installed. I can’t remember what else I installed at the time, but perhaps it was the various k games that initiated this?

This Upgrade notice didn’t happen on Lubuntu 19.04 and the only thing different I have installed on 20.04 is FeatherNotes, but the Update Notifier was already presenting before I found FN on the internet.

How can I find out what needs upgrading, why, and which program is requiring it, an dhow to stop it? I really don’t wan to do another install just to get rid of it!

From a terminal type:sudo apt update

apt list --upgradable

Thanks for replying! Sadly this doesn’t seem to work for me;

sudo apt update apt list --upgradable
[sudo] password for *******:
E: Command line option --upgradable is not understood in combination with the other options

Anything else I can try?

Well I’m obviously no expert, but this seems to be a fairly standard update list, that I’m used to seeing in Software Updater on earlier Lubuntus.
The whole “System Upgrade” notice was bit freaky though, and it certainly confused the issue.

Please tell me if I’m right - just in case I’m being a proper plonker!

Now just update your system to bring it up to date. You can use the updater software or from a terminal type this:

sudo apt upgrade

I think it’s worth noting for other users coming from LXDE versions of Lubuntu, that all this seems to be working just as the equivalent software did on those versions, but without the Software Updater window displaying all the available updates. The wording too can be confusing - Upgrading seems much more grand than simply Updating.
