I’m attempting to install Lubuntu 24.10 and the installation hangs with a blinking cursor after selecting Try or Install Lubuntu. Same thing occurs when selecting Lubuntu (safe graphics). I had no issues when writing the iso file to DVD so I don’t know what the error could be. Any help appreciated.
Can you edit the boot arguments? If so, at least remove “quiet splash” …
Turns out the laptop was older than I thought. It was 32-bit and likely the problem. I downloaded 18.04.5 32-bit dispo and it loaded fine.
Ubuntu and flavors don’t support 32-bit except where its armhf or 32-bit ARM.
A number of devices do display an error which states
This kernel requires an x86-64 CPU, but only detected an i686 CPU
but not all machines display this message. It’s seen as a user-procedure error (given the user tried to boot the wrong architecture ISO for their machine) and is marked as won’t fix.
I do recommend you keep a 18.04 system off-line (unless amd64 or arm64 which has ESM support options available), or if you intend using your machine on-line, I’d recommend switching to a Debian GNU/Linux system instead which still has support for 32-bit x86 (i386 being how Debian & Ubuntu refer to 32-bit x86).
