How to create desktop shortcut?

I want to create a desktop shortcut for QTerminal in Lubuntu 20.04. I dragged QTerminal from the application menu to the desktop and now I have a QTerminal icon there. When I double click it, I get 3 choices: Open, Execute, and Cancel. I want to always choose Execute. Is this possible?

Or, is there a simpler way to create desktop shortcuts?

That’s the way. By default, the system marks executables as untrusted, which means they’ll always ask you the question. A small benefit of this is that, should you want to edit the Desktop Entry file, you can choose Open, rather than having to get to editing it in other ways. Anyways, just right click and mark it trusted and you won’t be bothered.

I didn’t know about the right-click-and-trust trick. Perfect. It now works just as I want. Thanks.

Incidentally, this was in the manual the whole time.

@m4465 maybe you can mark the answer @wxl gave as solution?
