If you login at the login screen, does the desktop look as expected?

I can’t even login, as i keep getting login failed.

Well now that kind of doesn’t make sense since you were able to login with the virtual terminal. I’d try it again and be very meticulous about it.

If it still fails for some reason, log back into the virtual terminal and do this:

  1. sudo nano /etc/sddm.conf
  2. Edit it so that it includes the following (should be a matter of adding line 2):
    [Autologin]
    User=your-username
    Session=Lubuntu
    
  3. When done, hit Ctrl-X to exit
  4. When prompted, hit Y to save
  5. When prompted for the filename, hit Enter to accept the default
  6. Run sudo service sddm restart

The system should now boot directly into the desktop. How does everything look?
